San Diego’s Redistricting Commission Fraud charge

Sponsored by: San Diego Deserves Better

Fellow San Diegan,

San Diego’s Redistricting Commission is in a “once every ten years” process of drawing new lines for council districts, adjusting for population growth, shifts, etc.

The Commission’s charter requires that commissioners have “a demonstrated capacity to serve with impartiality in a non-partisan role” and that they be San Diego residents.

Commissioner Carlos Marquez is neither of those things.

For starters, he is the co-founder of the New Leaders Council – a labor union front group – and used to work as an SEIU organizer. He is not a run-of-the-mill average concerned citizen, but someone with a clear political agenda.

Second, he doesn’t even live in San Diego anymore. He took a job in Los Angeles as of April 8th and no longer lives at the address in San Diego where he is registered to vote. He has been documented as living in Los Angeles.

San Diego deserves better than having a labor union operative who doesn’t even live here involved in drawing the council district lines that the rest of us will have to live with for the next ten years.

Join us in demanding that commissioner Marquez resign immediately and please help spread the word about this petition. San Diego indeed deserves better!

Regards,

Concerned San Diego Residents

PS: In addition to signing the petition, take a minute to call the Redistricting Commission at (619) 533-3060 and demand that commissioner Marquez resign and that your request is placed in the public record
